Photo and Scanning Help
Scanning PhotosMarianne Bray is our committee member who gathers all the family photos. When we ask you for your family photos, we are asking for:

Here is a list of possible ways to get them to us:

*‘Quality scans’ means that they have been scanned as a JPEG at 600 dpi~ resolution but preferably 720 dpi. If there are lots of small faces in the photo, then use a higher resolution. If the photo is particularly poor quality, it needs to be scanned as a TIFF so it can be fixed in a ‘photoshop’ program. If a group photo is at a low resolution, then the cropped face will be a VERY low resolution. The more we have to cut out of the overall photo, the harder it is to end up with a good picture. (This is why we have been taking close up individual photos of everyone who comes to the reunions.)
Photocopies, photos taken of photos or weak scans are a poor substitute but better than no photo.

Photo file names have a limit about how long they can be. Longer explanations of the photo can be written to accompany the photos by matching up the name you gave file.
~DPI is the abbreviation of dots per inch that indicates the resolution of images: the more dots per inch, the higher the resolution. A common resolution for laser printers is 600 dots per inch. This means 600 dots across and 600 dots down, so there are 360,000 dots per square inch. www.webopedia.com/TERM/D/dpi.htm
