SourcesThroughout this website we have used many sources for the information included.
Our first source has always been the basic facts of the family tree. The family tree facts have been sourced from various family Bibles; family held photos; Birth, Death & Marriage Certificates; shipping records; old newspaper clippings mostly via the website "Trove"; and the Ancestry website where we have accessed similar types of records to all above plus Census records. With these facts, we have crafted stories that tell the basic life story of an individual or family. Beyond this there are the personal accounts of an individual or family stories handed down from the previous generations. Some in the family have recorded those stories in book form or as a short story. We have endeavoured to use as many sources as possible in order to paint a clear picture of an individual or family. If we have missed a vital piece of information that rounds out a life story, we are happy to incorporate it, so please pass it on. |
John 'Jack' Hayes
'Uncle Jack' has been a tremendous source of information. Jack Hayes wrote up all the facts, figures and stories of the family during the 1960's. We have circulated his hand written notes as well the transcribed versions widely throughout the family. We will publish as many as we can on this site and make them downloadable.

John Freesmith
John has diligently recorded family history since his teens. He was never content with the bare facts and sort stories from the family so they could be recorded for the boarder family and for the generations to come.
He has begun a comprehensive Hayes Family History, some of which he has shared at our reunions. He has also gathered many of the early stories and published them in booklet form. These have been made available at the Reunions, also. We can reproduce them for anyone on request - see "Items for Sale". |
Ken James & Noel Davis
Ken and Noel have an interest in the history of small rural districts in Central Victoria. They produce books about these districts after much intensive research. They are a wealth of family information, including photographs.

Ancestry
Several Hayes family members have dug into their pockets and purchased membership in the various Genealogical websites (mainly Ancestry; joined Genealogical societies; bought computer programs for recording & publishing family tree records; subscribed to genealogical magazines; purchased Birth, Death & Marriage Certificates. We are indebted to them for their contributions to this site and to the family in general for their generosity.
