David and Pollie Hayes welcomed their third child, Clifford Searcy Hayes into the world 5 March 1892 in Youarang (50kms north-east of Shepparton).
When Cliff was three years old, the family moved to Mirbo North
When Cliff was fifteen years old, David & Pollie bought "The Oaks" at Thornton in the Alexander district. David ultimately sold this property, after WW1, in order to divide the family inheritance between his sons, Harold and Cliff.

In 1918, Cliff and Elsie married. Sadly this married ended after six children: two boys and four girls.
